{"id":1337,"date":"2016-06-15T17:26:08","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T15:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.medizone.com\/?p=1337"},"modified":"2017-09-06T11:27:53","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T09:27:53","slug":"epirus-to-sell-cho-platform-and-biosimilar-ip-to-polpharma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medizone.com\/en\/epirus-to-sell-cho-platform-and-biosimilar-ip-to-polpharma\/","title":{"rendered":"Epirus to sell CHO platform and biosimilar IP to Polpharma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a cost-savings restructure, Epirus is selling the assets from its $14m acquisition of Bioceros last September to its biosimilars partner Polpharma.<\/p>\n<p>Last year , Epirus Biopharmaceuticals paid $14m (\u20ac12.5m) for Netherlands-based Bioceros Holding BV, adding three biosimilar candidates and a proprietary Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) platform (CHO) for the manufacture of monoclonal antibodies.<\/p>\n<p>But nine months later, the firm has announced in an SEC filing it is selling the Dutch subsidiary, including the <em>\u201cCHO<sup>BC<\/sup> cell line platform, all related intellectual property rights, a fully equipped laboratory and bioreactor capabilities\u201d<\/em> to its biosimilar development partner Polpharma for $3.5m.<\/p>\n<p>The firm will retain exclusive rights to develop BOW080 and BOW070 \u2013 intended copycat versions of Alexion\u2019s Soliris (eculizumab) and Chugai\/Roche\u2019s Actemra (tocilizumab), respectively \u2013 and said:<\/p>\n<p>This decision was based on cost-savings and not due to technical reasons, the firm said <u><a href=\"http:\/\/ir.epirusbiopharma.com\/secfiling.cfm?filingID=1104659-16-119230&amp;CIK=1135906\" target=\"_blank\">in a filing in May<\/a><\/u> , and was accompanied with plans to reduce the workforce by 40%. Epirus also said that with these measures it still only had <em>\u201csufficient cash resources to continue its operations through the second quarter of 2016.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The beneficiary of the sale, Polpharma, has been working with Epirus since <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biopharma-reporter.com\/Markets-Regulations\/Epirus-and-Polpharma-deal-to-bring-biosimilars-to-Europe-Middle-East\" target=\"_blank\">July 2015<\/a><\/u> when the two firms struck a development and commercialisation agreement for a number of biosimilar products.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a cost-savings restructure, Epirus is selling the assets from its $14m acquisition of Bioceros last September to its biosimilars partner Polpharma.
